Nicos Zamboglou

Professor Nikolaos Zamboglou was born and raised in Limassol. In 1967 he went to Germany to study.
He received his BS in Physics from RWTH Aachen University in 1974 on a DAAD scholarship and in 1977
he got his PhD in Physics at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf on a grant from the Center for
Nuclear Research (KFA Juelich). He completed his medical degree in 1984 and his PhD Medicine in 1989,
from the University of Essen.
From 1986 to 1992, Professor Zamboglou held the position of curator of Radiation Oncology at the
University of Düsseldorf. He then took over duties of director and professor of the Department of
Radiotherapeutic Oncology in clinic of Offenbach, at the Academic Hospital of the Wolfgang-Goethe
University of Frankfurt, where he remained until 2016.
Since 1993 he has been appointed as a research professor at the National Technical University of Athens
at the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS). During 2001-2007, he was an elected
member of the board of the German Radiological Society, while from 2003 to 2005 he was president of
the German Society of Radiation Oncology.
He was elected as a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens in 2010. In 2012, he was declared
Honorary Member of the Austrian Society of Radiation Oncology. In 2015, he was awarded the Alfred-
Breit Prize of the German Society of Radiotion Oncology (with highest honors).
Since 2016 Professor Zamboglou has been acting as the Medical Director of German Oncology Center.
Further, in 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of the Department of Electrical Engineering,
Computer Engineering and Informatics of the Cyprus University of Technology, and research professor of
the same department of CUT. Since 2018, he is a professor of Oncology at the European University of
Cyprus.
